My personal Australian Culture consists of some of the following values and beliefs. Australia is primarily a western culture which embraces values such as equal worth, repsect, dignity and freedom of indvidiuals. Equality for men and women, Equal opportunity regardless of race, religion or ethic background, freedom of speech and equality under the law just to name a few.
I have grandchildren who are Aboriginal and therefore I also embrace the Aboriginal culture and respect the history of the Aborignal people.

To find out information on the Aboriginal Cutlure within my local community I engage with the local Aboriginal land council and the local Minjungbal Aboriginal Culture centre in order to engage and speak with Aboriginal elders within the local community. Community Elders are great sharing stories about the history of the local area and advising where sacred Aboriginal site are. I also engage with Ngyum jarum which is an Aboriginal outcome of home care service for young people and children. This service ensures that young people in out of home care are connected to their culture and have supports wherever possible to stay connected to kinship. I am also regularly involved in the community for NAIDOC week. THere are many government websites such as indigenous.gov.au that can be useful resources for finding out information on populations and events.
